Dear Friends and Crew

Hope you are all well and enjoying and looking forward to a great sailing year? We have had some terrific sailing at 'Sailing Ventures' being on the water most weeks cruise training.

This year we are continuing with more RYA practical and shorebased week and weekend courses at all levels including Day Skipper, Yachtmaster - Coastal exams, ICC certification and several First Aid, VHF and Radar courses. There will also be cross Channel trips to Cherbourg and the Channel Isles as well as more trips to the West Country. We have also been out again with various owners doing own boat tuition to achieve a variety of objectives. Carol is still catering for all dietary needs and keeping up her reputation of ensuring SV students don't go home hungry.

On the racing front in May, the Sailing Ventures Fastnet crew will start this year’s qualifying for the Fastnet. Martin will also be skippering a yacht, of previous Fastneters – Hugh, Natalie, Ron, Mick & Steve for a week's racing in the Mediterranean for the ECC 2017 in Trogir, Croatia. Sailing Ventures will also be entering the Round the Island race again and are looking forward to a strong crew coming together.

We are continuing with the on line courses that are linked up with the RYA interactive and are offering:

  • Online - Essential Navigation and Seamanship which is a great introduction to navigation and safety awareness for new or inexperienced skippers and crew
  • Online - VHF Radio Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of a VHF Radio. The online element can form part of your tuition (option 2) or all of your tuition (option 3) prior to attending our classroom for examination
  • Online - CEVNI Test anyone requiring an ICC valid for inland waters must pass the inland CEVNI Test.
  • Online - Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) a compulsory online course for new and revalidating RYA Commercial Endorsement holders.

We also have other online opportunities coming up.

The SV 2017 RYA programme includes shorebased courses in Hordle (near Lymington) including Essential Navigation and Seamanship, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and new for next year Yachtmaster Ocean (Astro and worldwide meteorology) as well as one day First Aid, VHF Radio, Radar.
