The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is one of the most popular fixtures on the Solent racing calendar. Competitors come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK, to follow the 50 mile course round the Isle of Wight.
Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine's Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy back into the Solent. Spectators find many vantage points, both on the mainland and Isle of Wight, to watch the race progress.
Every boat completing the race receives a memento of the occasion.
Whether you compete regularly or are new to the sport, you will enjoy superb racing in some of the country's best sailing waters. Whilst the fastest multihull record stands at just over three hours, the bulk of the fleet crosses the line during the late afternoon or early evening and it is often the smaller craft that carry off the top prizes!

Fastnet Race 2013.
The once every 2 year Fastnet Race is organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the next one is in August 2013.
The Sailing Ventures 2013 Fastnet Race package will include yacht race training, three RORC qualifying channel races, First Aid at Sea and the ISAF Sea Survival Courses.
Sailing Ventures training weekend will be held in the western Solent on a Saturday and Sunday in March or April.
Sailing Ventures qualifying races for the Fastnet will be:
- 3 RORC Channel Races over 3 weekends between April and July
- a reserve race in July will be put by, in case it’s needed, along with the other race dates
The Sailing Ventures Fastnet 2013 package is £2995 and a deposit of £995 would secure your place.
