About Sailing ventures > News
Dear Friends and Crew,

Hope you are all well and had a great 2009? We did at 'Sailing Ventures' being on the water most weeks cruising or racing and experiencing, unusually, many weekends of extreme weather either very light winds or extremely blustery!

This year included RYA practical week and weekend courses at all levels as well as ICC certification and several First Aid and VHF courses. There was also cross Channel trips to Cherbourg and the Channel Isles.

SV London Boat Show prize draw winner, Jackie Bugg, claimed her free sailing weekend in July. Her husband Keith joined ‘FLAME’ and with 3 other crew Jakalyn, Danny, Rob and skipper Matt enjoyed a great weekend, visiting Newtown Creek and the River Hamble. Sunday saw them sailing down the Western Solent in glorious sunshine and a force 8 gale. What a rush!!! We hope to sail with the Buggs again in 2010?

Matthew has also been out several times with various owners doing own boat tuition to achieve a variety of objectives and has sailed on some very nice boats such as a large Oyster, Nauticat and Jeanneau etc.

On the racing scene, Martin and SV Fastnet crew of Claire, Adrian, Jonty, Gillian, Marc & Andrew entered the RORC series with the final race being the Fastnet in which Sailing Ventures were the 5th RYA Training School to finish. A great result and a superb race sailed with an enthusiastic and dedicated crew. Martin again managed a week’s corporate racing, as skipper on a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40, in the ECC 2009 event in the Mediterranean from Mallorca in Spain, which is a lovely cruising ground. The SV team also managed a few of the Thursday evening races around the cans in the Western Solent.

We fitted an AIS system to Flame during the summer and it proved very useful and reassuring in some foggy situations. We will be working on the yacht through the winter, whilst still in the water, until mid February with the usual winter refit tasks.

In 2010 Martin will be skippering a yacht in Bodrum, Croatia in the ECC 2010 race event in May and SV will be entering a team in the Round the Island Race again on 19 Jun, so give us a call if you are interested? SV are trying to get a stand at the Southampton Show in September so hope to see you there!

Have a good 2010 and look forward to sailing with you, meeting up on the water or just having a chat.

Safe sailing
